Effects of Pulse Treatments with Sucrose, Silver Thiosulfate Complex (STS) and Calcium Chloride on the Vase Life and Soluble Carbohydrate and Aurone Levels in Cut Snapdragon Flowers

The effects of pulse treatments with 0.2 mM silver thiosulfate complex (STS), 5 and 10% sucrose, 0.2% calcium chloride (CaCl2) their combinations on the vase life soluble carbohydrate aurone levels in cut snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus) flowers were investigated. In treatment, treated these chemical solutions for 24 h before being transferred to distilled water. uptake solution was decreased STS, CaCl2 combined STS sucrose treatment further suppressed uptake. significantly increased number open extended life, no marked differences between 5% solutions. slightly promoted flower opening but did not extend life. affect or relative fresh weight (RFW) water only affected by treatments. petal higher treatments, particularly at sucrose. glucose, fructose, contents generally than that include ethylene production relatively low harvest somewhat during senescence. Therefore, infectiveness may be due production. We conclude containing increase sugar petals, as well improve snapdragons.
